Archive description

This study comprises a metagenomic virome dataset generated from stool samples collected from patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and healthy household controls. A total of 1,123 samples were sequenced, including 412 samples from 130 individuals with ulcerative colitis (UC), 388 samples from 86 individuals with Crohn's disease (CD), 189 samples from household contacts of UC patients, and 134 samples from household contacts of CD patients. Samples were collected longitudinally to capture temporal variation in the gut virome across differing disease states and inflammatory activity, as assessed by fecal calprotectin levels. Virus-like particles (VLPs) were isolated from stool and subjected to random amplification using the Round AB protocol prior to Illumina sequencing, enabling characterization of the enteric DNA and RNA virome.
