longitudinal
1 of 1 people sampled more than once (3 samples; median 3, up to 3 per person) · follow-up median 30 d (max 30 d) · median interval between samples 15 d (time from timepoint labels). Schedule stated by the source: “oral and faecal samples at Day 0, Day 5, and Day 30” (time origin: treatment start); stated follow-up 30 d.
Each row is one person (1 shown); dots are samples at days since that person's first sample.
Genera, mean relative abundance over 2 profiled gut samples of this project (Sandpiper SingleM profiles, GTDB R232; low-depth and non-metagenome profiles left out).

- Impact of narrow-spectrum penicillin V on the oral and faecal resistome in a young child treated for otitis media. 2020 PMID 31415828 own_data
- Impact of narrow spectrum Penicillin V on the oral and fecal resistome in a young child treated for otitis media 2019 own_data
Archive description
Overuse of antibiotics have led to a global emergence of resistant bacteria, with children being some of the most frequent users. Most studies with broad-spectrum antibiotics show a severe impact on the resistome development of patients. Although narrow-spectrum antibiotics are believed to have less side-effects, their impact on the human microbiome and resistome is mostly unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the narrow-spectrum antibiotic phenoxymethylpenicillin (Penicillin V) on the microbiome and resistome of a child treated for acute otitis media. Oral and fecal samples were collected from a young child before (day 0) and after (day 5 and day 30) receiving Penicillin V against acute otitis media.
