longitudinalFMT donor → recipient
32 of 38 people sampled more than once (157 samples; median 5, up to 9 per person) · follow-up median 3 mo (max 3 mo) · median interval between samples 25 d (time from timepoint labels). Schedule stated by the source: “stool at day 0, 3, 28, 56 and 84 relative to FMT” (time origin: intervention_start); stated follow-up 3 mo.
Each row is one person (21 shown of 32); dots are samples at days since that person's first sample.
FMT RCT in diabetic neuropathy; 10 donor samples named for their recipient (FMT-<N>H-Donor) + 17 dated donor-person samples; 38 recipients sampled day 0–84.
donorrecipient · circles are people (pale = no sequenced sample), arrows run donor → recipient and parent → child, curved lines join twins, partners and siblings, squares are shared settings or families without recorded roles. Shown: 10 linked groups from explicit relations. 38 people in the project overall.
Genera, mean relative abundance over 193 profiled gut samples of this project (Sandpiper SingleM profiles, GTDB R232; low-depth and non-metagenome profiles left out).

Emerging evidence shows that gut microbiota drives the development of diabetes mellitus (DM). However, the contribution of gut microbiota to diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), a common complication of DM, remains elusive. Here, our randomized, double- blind, placebo-controlled pilot clinical trial showed that fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) significantly increased both the sensory and motor nerve conduction velocities and alleviated neuropathic symptoms and signs, particularly neuropathic pain. FMT did not improve glycemic control but significantly altered the gut microbiota, which had increased capacity for butyrate production and decreased for endotoxin. Such alterations were accompanied by improved gut barrier integrity and decreased proinflammatory cytokine levels. Thus, gut microbiota may play a causative role in DPN, and become an effective target for treatment.
