A comprehensive national nutrition survey in Indian population (CNNS-2016-18) showed

deficiency of multiple essential micronutrients were still prevalent not only in vulnerable

groups but also in the general population (Hidden-hunger). Despite public health strategies in

past several decades, the prevalence of Hidden-hunger requires more innovative

interventions.

One of the integral sources of micronutrients for human has been the gut microbiota, known

to produce some of those essential micronutrients. However, behaviour of native gut

microbiota in case of malnutrition has not been thoroughly investigated. So our hypothesis is

whether microbial dysbiosis (i.e, altered abundance and composition) contribute to the

prevalence of deficiency of essential micronutrients?

To address this gaps, we sequenced gut-metagenome of healthy and B6 and B12 deficient children from Balaghat district of Madhta Pradesh, India. Our analysis answerd if change in composition and dynamics of gut microbe(s) underlies micronutrient deficiency.
