High-fiber diet intervention on adult gut microbiome

Human gut microbiome sequencing during a high fiber diet intervention

86 fecal samples from 20 healthy adults (country not reported), collected before and during a 2-week high-fiber diet intervention, to assess changes in gut microbiome composition and SCFA abundance. machine-written summary

Sampling design and relatedness

longitudinal — not resolved

20 of 20 people sampled more than once (86 samples; median 4, up to 6 per person). Schedule stated by the source: “Fecal samples collected before and during a 2-week high fiber diet intervention, with multiple timepoints per subject (labels 1-6)” (time origin: intervention_start); stated follow-up 14 d.

Archive description

Shotgun sequencing of fecal samples from 20 individuals before and during a high fiber, food-based, diet intervention. Individuals increased their macronutrient fiber intake by 25g/day on average. Samples were sequenced using Illumina short read sequencing and run on a GC-FID to detect short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) abundance. We sought to examine whether a diet intervention for two weeks would alter the microbiome composition and abundance of measured SCFAs.
