longitudinal
91 of 93 people sampled more than once (300 samples; median 3, up to 7 per person) · follow-up median 34 d (max 34 d) · median interval between samples 17 d (time from timepoint labels). Schedule stated by the source: “High-risk patients: follow-up at weeks 1,4,8,12; low-risk: weeks 1,12; plus unscheduled visits at ACLF onset and 7 days later” (time origin: enrolment); stated follow-up 3 mo.
Each row is one person (1 shown of 91); dots are samples at days since that person's first sample.
Genera, mean relative abundance over 209 profiled gut samples of this project (Sandpiper SingleM profiles, GTDB R232; low-depth and non-metagenome profiles left out).

Archive description
This is a prospective, observational study of patients with cirrhosis, diagnosed via previous liver biopsy or a combination of clinical signs and findings from laboratory tests, endoscopy, and ultrasonography. The institutional review board approved the study protocol. The criteria for diagnosing acute decompensation upon hospitalisation included the development of ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, infection, gastrointestinal haemorrhage, or a combination of these conditions. Acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) diagnosis during follow-up was conducted according to the study criteria from CANONIC (Moreau et al., 2013). The dysfunction and failure of organs were defined using the organ failure score (Jalan et al., 2014) from the CLIF consortium (CLIF-C). This study was conducted within the MICROB-PREDICT project.
